Enlarged Prostate (BPH)

ProstateAn enlarged prostate, or BPH (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia), occurs in almost all men as they age. Roughly, half of all men older than 50 have some symptoms. BPH is not cancer. An enlarged prostate can cause bothersome symptoms associated with urination including decreased force of stream, straining to urinate, stopping and starting of the urinary stream, increased urinary frequency during the day, and getting up several times at night to urinate.

Most men with BPH do not require any treatment, but for those who do, our expert team of urologists can help guide them and provide effective diagnosis and relief from their urinary symptoms. There are both effective medical and surgical treatments for BPH. At NorthShore University HealthSystem we make every effort to determine which treatment is best for every patient on an individual basis.
