The multispecialty team at the Kellogg Cancer Center provides each patient with a personalized care plan to create the path for the most optimal outcome, including recommendations for advanced diagnostics, participation in promising clinical trials, and complete follow-up care that encompasses dietary counseling and rehabilitation.  NorthShore University HealthSystem’s team of hematologists manages and oversees each patient’s care from diagnosis through treatment, coordinating with other specialists as needed.

Chemotherapy is the most effective method of treating leukemia.  Various anticancer drugs are used either in combination or as single agents.  Under appropriate conditions, bone marrow transplantation may be useful in treating certain forms of leukemia.  Antibiotics and transfusions of blood components are used as supportive treatments.

Stem cell transplantation is sometimes a course of treatment for patients with leukemia.  Kellogg Cancer Center has an accredited program by The Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy for autologous stem cell transplantation.
