Integrative Counseling & Stress Relief Strategies

Though no one can go back in time and make a brand new start,
anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending  ~ Anonymous

What Is It?

Integrative counseling and psychotherapy is one aspect of a team approach to supporting health and wellness. The counselor collaborates with other members of the individual's health care team to develop an effective plan of care as well as an ongoing evaluation of the individual's progress toward his/her goals. In an environment of mutual trust and respect, the client can explore concerns as well as identify personal strengths, using approaches that enhance insight, awareness, hope and identification of options for coping, change and growth.

Treatment Philosophy

Consistent with the philosophy of integrated healthcare, the counselor considers the entire person - body, mind and spirit - as well as the external influences of family, work, social economic, spiritual and environmental systems, recognizing that all of these factors can influence health and wellness.

A fundamental belief is that each individual possesses an intrinsic movement toward balance, health and well-being, as well as internal wisdom to guide that movement toward wellness.

What Happens in a Session?

The integrative counselor provides individualized care for each client, assisting him/her to access that internal wisdom as well as providing interventions to support the innate healing process. The power of therapeutic client-counselor relationship is the foundation of the counseling care.

Interventions which may be used to support the individual's movement toward wellness include sharing life experiences and goals, using imagery, visualization, hypnosis, meditation, breathwork, writing activities, educational readings, music, dance and movement, ritual, thought modification and energy system work, as well as understanding the process of change.
