Liz Farwell is an Advanced Practice Nurse, Certified Clinical Nurse Specialist and Bariatric Coordinator. She works with four bariatric surgeons: Dr Woody Denham, Dr Stephen Haggerty, Dr John Linn and Dr Michael Ujiki. In her role as Bariatric Coordinator she manages the care of bariatric patients including initial consult through surgery and ongoing follow-up. In addition, she provides Lap Band adjustments and follow-up care for post surgical patients. She coordinates care with our multi-disciplinary bariatric team including bariatric surgeons, registered nurses, bariatric psychologists, bariatric dietitians, exercise physiologist, and internists. NorthShore University HealthSystem is a Center of Excellence through the American College of Surgeons. Liz works with insurance companies to ensure our patients’ approval for bariatric surgery and ensured NorthShore’s recognition as a Bariatric Center of Excellence with multiple insurance companies. Liz coordinates multiple aspects of our bariatric program, including our monthly Bariatric Support Groups. She is also active with the Advanced Practitioner Council.
Prior to coming to NorthShore, Liz worked in Vascular surgery at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, specializing in treatment of varicose veins, and spent 14 years at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in cardiac surgery, intensive care, med-surg, and critical care, specializing in cardiac and vascular surgery. She also worked for the National Council of State Boards of Nursing, where she designed and developed questions for the national nursing licensure exams (NCLEX). Liz is a member of five different professional organizations for bariatrics, APNs and critical care. In addition, Liz serves as a preceptor to graduate students from multiple local universities.
