Michael Goldberg, MD with a GI patient before her procedure

I have had the pleasure of leading the section of Gastroenterology at NorthShore University HealthSystem for the past six and a half years.  Fortunately, I have been able to build on the wonderful foundation that James Rosenberg, MD, had in place when I arrived.  James active clinical and fundraising efforts in the department have helped in my vision of creating a world-class GI unit.

Our concentration lies in continuous improvement of an already strong clinical department, with a focus on developing a nationally recognized research team active in early detection and prevention of GI cancers. We are a teaching hospital, coaching students, residents and fellows for the future ahead of them.

Since establishing state-of-the-art labs, we are now planning on opening an Advanced Endoscopic Imaging Center which will be able to provide comprehensive care for high risk patients in the Chicago area.  Our multidisciplinary pancreatic cancer clinic is known throughout the region, including our Genetics program and their research in this area.  We are working diligently on developing a multidisciplinary Esophageal Center for the diagnosis and management of esophageal diseases.  Largely, through the efforts of the Auxiliary of NorthShore University HealthSystem and grateful patients we will have raised 1.5 million dollars to establish an IBD center on the North Shore.  IBD inicidence continues to rise and is near epidemic proportions in our area.

Each of our doctors and nurses are committed to excellence in patient care delivered in a friendly and caring manner.
