Patients of the Women's Colorectal Cancer Prevention and Treatment Program diagnosed with colon cancer are referred to a female medical oncologist at the Kellogg Cancer Center. This specialist will head a multispecialty team that includes your gastroenterologist, primary care physician and leading colorectal surgeons.
This dedicated team provides each patient with a personalized care plan designed to achieve a successful outcome, including:
- Recommendations for advanced diagnostics
- Consideration of minimally invasive procedures
- Participation in promising clinical trials
If you require chemotherapy after surgery, you will be treated by an all-female team who will focus on minimizing side effects and enhancing quality of life during treatment. After you complete therapy, you will undergo intensive follow-up that includes dietary counseling and lifestyle strategies to reduce the risk of recurrence and new polyp formation.
