Beyond the walls of the Women's Colorectal Cancer Prevention and Treatment Program, physicians and nurses participate in a variety of outreach activities to create awareness about colorectal cancer and prevention, provide information and encourage screenings to women in the communities served by NorthShore University HealthSystem (NorthShore). These include:

  • Luncheon presentation/keynote speaking engagements
  • Presentations to church groups and professional organizations
  • Involvement in area health fairs

Creating awareness is integral to preventing colorectal cancer. "Colon cancer is one of the few cancers we can prevent. Most colon cancers begin as polyps, and if we can remove the polyp, we can prevent colon cancer." said NorthShore gastroenterologist Yolandra Johnson, MD. "We are trying to prevent colon cancer from happening or catch it at its earliest stages."
