Endomicroscopy, also called Confocal Laser Endomicroscopy, is a new technology for patients who need an advanced endoscopic imaging procedure.

It involves a tiny, yet powerful fiber optic microscope that fits through a standard endoscope and magnifies tissue at the cellular level. Endomicroscopy enables physicians to look for abnormalities below the surface lining of the digestive tract and improves their ability to diagnose a variety of medical conditions.

It also provides critical information about digestive tract disease, especially for evaluating patients with dysplasia, or precancerous stages of Barrett’s esophagus.
