Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy Program
Dr. Mick Meiselman, Section Chief
NorthShore University HealthSystem (NorthShore) is a regional center for patients who need advanced endoscopic procedures to treat a wide range of upper and lower digestive tract conditions. Endoscopists have received advanced training and are board-certified physicians with experience in using the newest technology. Their team of multidisciplinary healthcare providers is committed to providing the highest quality patient care.
NorthShore's physicians also are national experts in the field of advanced therapeutic endoscopy and are affiliated with the University of Chicago. They are part of the NorthShore Department of Gastroenterology, which includes physicians recognized by U.S. News and World Report and Chicago magazine year after year as top physicians in their specialty.
The Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy Program puts patients at the center of care. Its specialists are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for patients with emergencies at each of NorthShore's hospitals – Evanston, Glenbrook, Highland Park and Skokie.
For most patients, endoscopy specialists work with their primary care physician and perform non-surgical outpatient procedures at the Gastroenterology (GI) Labs located in Evanston Hospital and Highland Park Hospital. Each of these labs offers patients a full complement of services in state-of-the-art GI Endoscopy Suites with the latest fluoroscopy and anesthesia equipment.
As a regional center, NorthShore's Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy Program cares for inpatients at others hospitals in the area with complex diseases and conditions. These patients are transferred to Evanston Hospital or Highland Park Hospital for advanced outpatient diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy procedures.
The program also provides multidisciplinary care from a team of physicians at NorthShore Kellogg Cancer Center for patients with complicated benign or malignant pancreatic or biliary tract diseases and cancers of the digestive system.
