Each year The Auxiliary at Highland Park Hospital proudly awards scholarship funds to an employee for the pursuit of education related to the medical field and is applied towards tuition and books.

The scholarship process begins in the spring when announcement is made to all departments at Highland Park Hospital. Applications are accepted and interviews take place during the summer. Winners are announced at the August Auxiliary meeting.

Blood Donor Program
Donate Blood - Save Three Lives. The Auxiliary at Highland Park Hospital partners with LifeSource - Chicagoland's Blood Center to sponsor blood drives at Highland Park Hospital throughout the year. Blood donors begin a cycle of care for neighbors, family and friends who rely on blood transfusions to overcome disease, illness or accidents.

Since blood cannot be manufactured, it truly is a gift one person gives another. People will tell you they donate because it makes them feel good. Each donation can save up to three lives. The need for blood is great.

Donors must be at least 17 years old and weigh more than 110 pounds. Remember to eat a good meal and drink plenty of liquid before donating blood. You will be required to show identification that displays either a social security number, driver's license or state identification number.

Blood drives are scheduled in the lower level meeting room at Highland Park Hospital from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the second Thursday of January, March, May, July, September and November.

Mobile Meals
Make a Difference to a homebound person. The Mobile Meals Program at Highland Park Hospital delivers meals to people who are homebound, at nutritional risk or cannot prepare their own meals. Delivery areas include Highland Park, Deerfield, Highwood and Glencoe. Meals are picked up at the Hospital and delivered between 11:15a.m. and 12:30p.m. For many recipients, this is the only social contact they have in a day.

Mobile Meals Program is a program of the Auxiliary at Highland Park Hospital and is operated by volunteers. To volunteer or obtain more information, please call Marjorie Mead at 847.480.2648 or visit the Mobile Meals Program page.

Auxiliary Takes to the Grade Schools with NorthShore Kids' Corner Program
The Auxiliary at Highland Park Hospital has a program offered to second grade classrooms in our community. The program is "NorthShore Kids' Corner." The purpose of the program is to reduce anxiety and apprehension that children might have about being treated at a hospital through a classroom presentation about the variety of services and activities hospitals offer. Auxiliary Board members visit classrooms with a presentation about our community hospital, Highland Park Hospital. The children have the opportunity to ask questions, examine some medical equipment and have a small cast placed on a finger. At the end of the program, each child receives an Activity Book and a Parents' Packet with information to take home. For schools that prefer to visit Highland Park Hospital, the program includes a tour of the Hospital.

Student Board at Highland Park High School
The mission of the Board: We are students coming together to create a healthy environment and health awareness in our community. The Auxiliary of NorthShore University HealthSystem at Highland Park Hospital and Highland Park High School have joined forces to form a student board at the school. The Board focuses on educating students about a healthy lifestyle, career opportunities in the healthcare field, and community service and volunteerism opportunities relating to health and wellness. Their newest project is for the school cafeteria: "EAT THIS, NOT THAT." The students are making posters to show which are the lunch choices are most and least healthy.
