Gastroenterology

The Gastroenterology Fellowship at NorthShore University HealthSystem offers a comprehensive clinical experience with diverse training at our four NorthShore hospitals along with quaternary specialty education with our academic affiliates at the University of Chicago. Our unique program blends the academic experience of a university-affiliated teaching institution with the individualized experience of a smaller (2 fellows per year) Chicago-based community fellowship. Trainees will be welcomed to a supportive environment with diverse career mentoring across the breadth of private to academic paths and experience with exceptionally diverse patient populations. Our fellows go on to successful careers within the field with approximately 50% entering private practice in Chicago and beyond while our other half pursue traditional academic settings (Transplant Hepatology, IBD, ATE, or teaching positions).

Our program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). The NorthShore Difference

  • Our small program size, high faculty-to-fellow ratio, and personalized training program allows us to tailor the educational experience to our individual fellows needs and interests.
  • Our teaching affiliation with the University of Chicago provides diversity in research mentorship along with clinical rotations in Transplant hepatology, inpatient nutrition and Inflammatory Bowel Disease provide a quaternary complement to our teaching program
  • Numerous opportunities to work alongside clinical investigators and participate in research within an infrastructure with robust investment in clinical informatics and education including our IBD Center, Center for Medical Genetics, Women’s GI Health Program, & Granger Center for Simulation and Innovation
  • The combination of real-world clinical experience and diverse research mentorship at NorthShore and University of Chicago provides our fellows with the tools to succeed in the full complement of GI career pathways.

We thank you for your interest in our fellowship, and encourage you to contact Stephanie Gutierrez at sgutierrez@northshore.org with any questions about our program.
