Introduction to Windows
This lecture and hands-on class is for those of you just getting your first
computer or still trying to decide whether or not to upgrade (hard to beleive, but true). This class
will help you to get acquainted with the current versions of Windows.
You will learn how to perform day-to-day tasks with your computer, how to find things
when they get lost, what you need to do to keep your computer from having problems, and
more. Because this is a hands-on class, attendance is limited by the number of computers
available in the lab. Please call to reserve your seat.
Macintosh - Behind the Screen:
Maintenance and Troubleshooting
We have invited back the respected "Mac Doctor", Chuck Scheffreen to present a Macintosh
maintenance and troubleshooting workshop. The "Mac Doctor" has been troubleshooting and
fixing Macs full time since 1990.
This lecture style workshop, will cover the basic essentials of the
Operating System, focusing on Control Panels and Extensions. The good "Doctor" will
cover some of the more confusing concepts such as system memory vs. storage memory.
He usually likes to start with prevention, taking a backwards approach at the
beginning -- covering such things as how to crash your computer by downloading and
installing all those nifty utilities from the Internet, trading files with your buddies so
that you can catch a virus and updating systems by installing over old ones.
In addition to showing us what "not" to do the "Mac Doctor" will cover basic maintenance
such as rebuilding the desktop file, checking for current versions/updates of software, etc.
If time permits he may cover using Norton, Tech Tool Pro, Disk First Aid, etc., though the
"Doctor" believes more is gained by spending extra time on maintenance, prevention and
basic system information
More Microsoft Word
This lecture and hands-on class will cover some of the more
advanced capabilities of Microsoft Word. After a very quick review of
BASIC word processing with MS WORD, the class will look at ways to make your work
look like real business documents. Topics include, FORMATTING, STYLE, TEMPLATES, and
WIZARDS. The use of clipart and basic DTP ideas will be discussed. Special emphasis
will be given to ways to eliminate some of Word's annoyances and to make your word
processing more productive.
Whether a new computer user or a seasoned word processor, this class will
offer ways and means to improve your use of the computer. Students are expected to
be comfortable with word processing.

Introduction to Databases - Part I
This introductory class using Microsoft Access, will cover the basics of databases -- how
to create them and then put them to work. The format of the class is both lecture
and hands-on, with practical exercises to ensure that each student is comfortable
with the basics.
Why learn a database at all? Well, it can keep track of your family events, like births,
deaths and marriages. If you have a hobby, you can record whatever details you want,
even add new variations and categories, anytime. And if you're following the ups and downs
of the stock market, few tools will help you track your stock transactions quite like a
database.
Take this class, and you may find lots of ways to get more organized, and in the process
discover hidden details that only the sorting and reorganizing of your records could reveal.
Introduction to Databases - Part II

of the class is both lecture and hands-on with practical exercises to ensure

Take this class, and you may find lots of ways to get more organized, and in the process
discover hidden details that only the sorting and reorganizing of your records could reveal.
