Dr. Stephen Haggerty 

Stephen P. Haggerty, MD, FACS is a general and laparoscopic surgeon who specializes in weight loss surgery. Through his career he has had special interest in gastrointestinal surgery and has shaped advanced laparoscopic surgery at Highland Park Hospital. He has performed hundreds of minimally invasive surgeries on the stomach, gallbladder, small intestine and colon. He became interested in surgical weight loss three years ago after seeing the remarkable success that it has, giving patients a chance at a much healthier and longer life. Dr. Haggerty performs totally laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery as well as the laparoscopic adjustable gastric band. He is part of the NorthShore University HealthSystem multidisciplinary weight loss program, which is a national center of excellence and he helps moderate the free monthly support groups. Dr. Haggerty provides consultations at his office and is giving free patient information lectures on surgical weight loss. Dr. Haggerty completed his internship and residency in general surgery at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago and is currently a clinical faculty member of the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. He has contributed to text books, been published in peer reviewed journals, and given several presentations to student’s and fellow physicians. Furthermore, he is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and serves on a committee for the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons.
