Treatment Philosophy

“I tailor my recommendations to the needs and expectations of the patient.” Dr. Ira Kornblatt is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in reconstructive knee and shoulder surgery. He provides care for conditions such as rotator cuff tears, shoulder reconstruction, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and total knee replacements. He has extensive experience in arthroscopy and other minimally invasive surgical techniques, which reduce pain and speed recovery. In providing care, Dr. Kornblatt takes a conservative approach and exhausts non-surgical treatments such as physical therapy and injection therapy before recommending surgery. He educates patients about their problem and their treatment options. He provides an honest assessment of the outcomes they can expect. He tailors his treatments to the individual condition and expectations of each patient and provides care in a common sense, cost-effective manner.

Personal Interests

Like his brother Michael, also an IBJI physician, Dr. Kornblatt was inspired to enter the medical profession by his late uncle, Dr. William Meltzer, an orthopaedic surgeon, and seeing the pleasure he took from helping patients. Dr. Kornblatt was a team physician for the Chicago Bulls for eight years, including two of their championship seasons. He also was team physician for the Chicago Wolves for several years.
