This one-year fellowship located at Evanston Hospital, Evanston, Illinois, is designed to develop diagnostic expertise in general surgical pathology for either academic or community settings. One fellow is accepted each year.
The year includes core rotations in general surgical pathology, frozen section, and consultations. Elective time is available for focused subspecialty rotations in cytopathology, dermatopathology, hematopathology, molecular genetic pathology, and research under the supervision of senior faculty. The scientific environment is particularly well suited for translational research.
Fellow responsibilities include supervision and teaching of residents and medical students, frozen sections, dissection of surgical specimens for microscopic review, workup of consultation cases, and presentations at departmental and interdepartmental clinical conferences (tumor boards).
The Fellow will see a wide range of pathology with an emphasis on breast, pancreatic, and prostatic specimens. All core rotations are at the Evanston campus, and includes specimens from Glenbrook, Highland Park, and Skokie Hospitals (120,000 specimens).
Requirements
Applicants must hold an MD degree (or foreign equivalent with ECFMG certification) and be Board eligible or certified in Anatomic Pathology or combined AP/CP. Applicants must be eligible for an Illinois medical license.
Stipend
Commensurate with level of training.
