During clinical pathology rotations, residents generally are integrated into laboratory functions via a variety of activities, including sign-out of cases, didactic sessions with the director and laboratory staff, involvement in consults and review of interesting cases, and exercises addressing laboratory problems and administrative issues.  Residents also spend time at the bench learning the technical aspects of test performance in each lab.   Most labs incorporate pre and post testing on material to assess competency and progress.
