Adult Partial Hospitalization Program
The Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) at Evanston Hospital and Highland Park Hospital is a time-limited, structured program of psychotherapy specifically designed to meet the needs of patients who are experiencing an acute episode of mental illness. The program provides short term treatment as an alternative to inpatient hospitalization or as an option following inpatient care. A multidisciplinary team delivers services that are individually tailored to provide a coordinated, intensive and comprehensive plan for the patient.
This group psychotherapy treatment uses evidenced based-treatment including cognitive behavioral therapy to help patients develop coping skills. Goals of the program are to assist patients in:
- Medication management
- Decreasing stress
- Developing effective patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving
- Resolving problems through goal achievement
- Providing education that will give knowledge and skills to cope with current and future stress

- Schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders

Program Structure
The PHP program consists of 4 groups daily Monday through Friday. Groups offered include:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
- Dialectical Behavioral Therapy
- Anger Management
- Assertiveness/ Self esteem
- Psychotherapy/ Processing
- Therapeutic recreation/wellness
- Goal setting
- Strengths/ Positive Psychology
- Medication education
