The Center for Eating Disorders offers a nationally recognized program that provides a multidisciplinary approach within a nurturing and structured environment.

The continuum of care includes:

  • Assessment
  • Intensive Outpatient
  • Outpatient Nutrition Counseling

The eating disorder treatment philosophy embodies the belief that those struggling with eating disorders can normalize their relationship with food, learn positive coping skills, get a better understanding of the social and emotional aspects of the problem and develop a stronger support system.

The professional team includes board certified psychiatrists, registered psychiatric nurses, licensed clinical social workers, registered dieticians, recreation therapists and certified teachers.

Eating disorder treatment at the Center for Eating Disorders begins with learning how to eat in a healthy way, within a social atmosphere to normalize mealtimes.  Adaptive coping skills, stress management, mood management and communication skills are taught to promote movement toward recovery from the illness.  The goal is to encourage substitution of new skills to replace the maladaptive behaviors of the eating disorder. Eating disorder treatment invites self-exploration to improve self-esteem, identify underlying causes and better understand one’s strengths and limitations.

Family involvement is an important part of all of our programs. Family participation helps the patient develop a stronger support system and helps the family begin to make positive changes at home.

Treatment approaches include cognitive, psychodynamic and family systems therapies as well as recovery education at all levels of care.  Patients and families are actively involved in goal setting and treatment planning.  The eating disorder unit staff encourages and welcomes input and feedback regarding the treatment from patients and families.
